Of course, you should be able to catch The Force Awakens on TV or streaming somewhere down the road. Both the original trilogy and the prequels can only be purchased, and it seems unlikely that Disney will change its approach here - given the demand for Star Wars, it can kind of just do that without losing too many viewers. Disney doesn't mention digital rental availability, and chances are, there won't be any. It is trying to make you purchase it, though.
The Force Awakens' Blu-ray releases come with a digital copy of the movie, so Disney isn't necessarily trying to make people purchase the film over and over. Basically, between the digital / disc release gap and the multiple versions, it's going to be a nightmare for diehard fans. Target, Walmart, and Best Buy will all get their own special editions with different packaging and extras. Then the following week, on April 5th, it'll be get a Blu-ray and DVD release, which is where fans will have to go for most additional content: making-of clips, deleted scenes, interviews, and so on. Disney announced this morning that The Force Awakens will be available as a digital download and through its Disney Movies Anywhere streaming service starting April 1st.
